Love Covers is a group of volunteers who quilt the love of Jesus! Sewing skills are not necessary to participate with this lively and giving group of individuals.
Since their beginning in 2014, Love Covers has touched over 2000 lives, not only in the Myrtle Beach area, but across the country and around the globe, in places such as China, Albania, Israel, Kenya, Moldova, and Indonesia. Hundreds of locals, some who are homeless, some who are foster children, some who are hurting after natural disasters, some in care facilities, some with terminal illnesses, some caretakers of those with illnesses, have received a quilt of their very own through Love Covers. Each quilt is handmade by volunteers with all donated materials, each is prayed over by the Journeychurch family before being distributed to whomever the Lord has called us to give.
Love Covers tangibly touches children and others with the love of God, one at a time, when they specially need to feel loved: during hard financial times, sickness, or family disruption. Each quilt is bathed in God's peace and joy through the hands of those who touch it.
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
We are a group of 20+ volunteers and all materials are donated. Each person has a specific role in the creation of a quilt and passes it on to the next person. Tasks include washing and ironing donated materials, cutting materials into squares, bundling colors together, and even machine embroidering our trademark "Jesus Loves Me" patches. Another person may enjoy sewing the quilt tops or choosing the quilt padding and backs. Quilts are held together with hand stitching and knotting, and then are finally stitched along the edges. Ironing is very important throughout the process.
Anyone can come along with us to serve others and find friends!
